Hello Austin County friends,
I am a hopeless romantic. Despite my single status for most of my life, I still believe My Prince will come along. But feelings of love shouldn’t be reserved for just a life partner. It can also include parents, siblings, children, friends and your community.
On Valentine’s Day, my mother gave me small tokens of love accompanied by homemade cards. I treasured the small boxes with pretty gift wrap. They contained an adorable stuffed animal, a pair of silly socks or a love coupon with the promise of doing something together. It has been many years since my mother passed, but those cards revive cherished memories.
A few of my son’s grade school Valentine’s cards to me are safely tucked in a dresser drawer along with my mother’s. While we can’t save all the love gifts we receive from our children, I think we should save a few to cheer us through the years. I hope 2024 will be the year you find your true love, appreciate the one you have and remember to celebrate all those who love you.
With Love,
Paula Schechter
