The last editorial that I wrote was about how excited my husband and I were to go to a BBQ contest in Kansas City. As some of you may know, we did not get to go. My husband’s mother passed away.
I am a very private person and don’t express my feelings very often, but I need to talk about this very important person in my life that I lost.
Keeping the memories of Virginia, my mother-in-law, alive is very significant to me. Looking back, one of the best Christmas gifts that we gave to her was an Elvis impersonator. She and I were/are big Elvis fans. She once told me that she saw him live in concert, and she was one of the ‘screamers’. I can tell you that I am still jealous to this day.
As I sat beside my husband, at her funeral, sobbing as the priest was talking about how she was such a great person, it was hard not to have a good distraction from my two-year-old grandson, who was talking about everything not related to this funeral. She would have been amused, not frustrated.
She loved me the first day she met me, and I loved her. I will never forget her.
I thought about you yesterday and today Virginia, and will think about you again tomorrow. God has you now, but you will forever be in my heart.
